Portions of these instructions refer specifically to Sony TRV-17/18 digital camcorders. However, the process should be similar for other models.

1. Find a TV/VCR that has TWO sets of video ports (those yellow, red and white plugs). You need VIDEO OUT (that's where the VCR is normally be connected to a TV -- all VCRs have this) as well as VIDEO IN ports (some older VCRs won't have a 2nd set of video ports).

2. The digital camcorder came with an AV cord that has a single, black connector on one end and then 2 or 3 connectors on the other end (yellow and white, or yellow, red and white). Plug the single, black end into the AV port on the camcorder (should be behind the little plastic "door" near the lens). Plug the other end into the VIDEO IN ports on the VCR (matching whatever colors are available).

3. If necessary, find the "A/V Input" channel on the TV to make the TV recognize the signal is coming from camcorder (This may be one channel below "2"). At this point, you should be able to "Play" the video from the camcorder while viewing it on the TV.

4. Insert a VHS tape into the VCR and set the camcorder tape to the desired scene. Press RECORD on the VCR and then immediately press PLAY on the camcorder (you can do that in reverse order, if you're sure you're not going to cut off any of your digital tape). At this point you are recording exactly as you would a TV show.
